2027 Paint Colour Trends: Soft Greens and Warm Pinks for Ottawa Homes
A look at the latest colour-of-the-year announcements—and how to use them without repainting your entire home.
By Ottawa All Painting ·
Thinking about a fresh interior colour? The first 2027 paint forecasts are already here. Two September 2026 announcements offer a useful direction for Ottawa homeowners: softer, warmer colours that add personality without relying on a stark white room or a very dark feature wall.
BeautiTone named Rosewater (TR27-2-1), a soft pink with subtle yellow undertones, its 2027 Colour of the Year. Sherwin-Williams and HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams selected Celery (SW 6421 / HGSW6421), a muted green with yellow undertones. These are manufacturer forecasts, not a rule for what your home should look like. The best choice still depends on your light, flooring and furnishings.
1. Soft Green: A Little Colour Without a Dramatic Change
A soft green can be a good starting point if you like neutral interiors but want something more distinctive. Celery points toward a lighter, warmer green rather than the deep forest shades associated with moodier rooms. Try this direction in a bedroom, home office or dining area where you want the walls to have some colour without becoming the room's strongest contrast.
Keep the rest of the palette simple at first. Natural wood, an off-white ceiling and a few darker accents can give a pale green room definition. Check the green beside your permanent finishes: yellow-toned flooring, grey tile and cream upholstery may each bring out different aspects of the same paint.
If painting every wall feels like too much, start with one room rather than carrying the colour throughout an open-plan home. A contained space lets you see how you feel about the colour in everyday use.
2. Warm Pink: More Subtle Than You Might Expect
Warm pink does not have to mean a bright statement room. BeautiTone's Rosewater announcement describes a soft pink with yellow undertones, suited to warmer, layered interiors. That makes it a colour direction worth sampling if you want a bedroom, reading space or guest room to feel different from the rest of the house without using a saturated shade.
Pair a muted pink with wood, restrained off-whites and existing textiles before adding more colours. Pay attention to adjacent rooms: a pink wall beside a cool grey hallway may create more contrast than you expected. The aim is a combination you enjoy living with, not an exact copy of a manufacturer's styled photograph.
A feature wall or an interior door can also introduce the colour on a smaller scale. Doors need a suitable coating and preparation, so discuss the surface as well as the shade before committing. Our feature wall painting service is another option when you want a focused colour change.
3. Test the Trend in Your Ottawa Home's Light
A colour shown online is not a reliable preview of your finished walls. Screens, photography and lighting change its appearance. In an Ottawa home, a north-facing room can make a colour read differently from a south-facing room, and the lights you use during darker evenings matter just as much as daytime light.
- Use physical samples: follow the manufacturer's sampling instructions and view a generous sample rather than relying only on a small chip.
- Check more than one wall: look beside the window and in a shaded area of the room.
- Compare morning and evening: include the lamps and ceiling lights you actually use.
- Keep fixed finishes nearby: judge the sample beside flooring, cabinets, tile and upholstery.
- Check the connecting spaces: stand in the doorway and consider the next room's colour too.
For rooms that feel cool or dim, our guide to paint colours for north-facing rooms in Ottawa explains how light and undertones affect your choices.
4. Choose a Finish for the Room, Not Just the Trend
Colour and finish are separate decisions. A bedroom wall, busy hallway, bathroom and painted door do not necessarily need the same coating. Discuss washability, moisture exposure, surface condition and the product's intended use rather than choosing a sheen from its name alone.
Higher sheen can make surface irregularities more noticeable, while a lower-sheen finish may produce a softer appearance. Performance varies between products, so check the actual coating specification. Read our guide to choosing a paint finish for a room-by-room starting point.
5. You Can Follow a Trend With a Small Repaint
You do not need a whole-home makeover to use a new colour direction. Painting a guest bedroom, refreshing a dining room or changing a feature wall may be enough. You can also keep your current colour family and choose a slightly warmer, lighter or softer version if a completely different shade feels unnecessary.
Before requesting an estimate, list the surfaces you want painted: walls only, or walls plus ceiling, trim and doors. Identify repairs and confirm what preparation is included. A new colour looks its best on a properly prepared surface, and a smaller project still needs protection, appropriate products and cleanup.
Which 2027 Colour Direction Is Right for You?
Start with the room, not the annual colour announcement. Soft green may suit someone who wants a nature-inspired alternative to beige; warm pink may appeal if you want a gentler contrast with wood and off-white furnishings. Neither is automatically the right choice for every space. Sample both if you are unsure, and keep the colour that works with your home rather than the one that looks most fashionable online.
