Ottawa's climate is one of the most demanding in Canada for exterior paint — hard winters, wet springs, hot summers, and temperature swings that can peel a poor paint job within a couple of seasons. At Ottawa All Painting, we take exterior work seriously: thorough surface preparation, the right primers, and premium exterior coatings that are built to last through everything Ottawa throws at them.

We serve homeowners and property owners across Ottawa including Kanata, Barrhaven, Nepean, Orleans, Stittsville, Westboro, the Glebe, and beyond.

What Our Exterior Painting Service Covers

A complete exterior repaint goes well beyond the siding. Our crews handle every painted surface on the outside of your home:

  • Vinyl, wood, and composite siding
  • Soffit and fascia
  • Window and door trim
  • Front doors and screen doors
  • Garage doors and frames
  • Porches, steps, and railings
  • Decks and fences
  • Concrete, stucco, and masonry
  • Foundation walls above grade
  • Shutters and architectural details

We also pair exterior painting with our interior painting service for homeowners who want a complete refresh inside and out.

Our Exterior Painting Process

Every exterior project follows the same disciplined process — because shortcuts in exterior painting always show up eventually.

  1. Inspection and estimate. We walk the exterior of your home with you, identify any areas needing repair or special prep, and give you a detailed written quote before any work begins.
  2. Wash and clean. All surfaces are pressure-washed to remove dirt, mildew, chalking paint, and biological growth. Clean surfaces are essential for adhesion — paint applied over a dirty or mildewed surface will fail prematurely.
  3. Surface preparation. We scrape any loose or peeling paint, sand rough edges, fill cracks and holes with exterior-grade caulk and filler, and prime all bare wood, repaired areas, and stain-prone surfaces.
  4. Protection. Windows, doors, hardware, landscaping, and any surfaces not being painted are masked and covered before we start applying product.
  5. Priming. Bare or repaired surfaces receive a full coat of exterior primer. On previously painted surfaces in good condition, we spot-prime as needed before the topcoats.
  6. Application. We apply a minimum of two topcoats using premium exterior paints from Sherwin-Williams or Benjamin Moore — products specifically formulated for adhesion, flexibility, and fade resistance in Canada's climate.
  7. Final inspection and cleanup. We do a complete walk-around with you before calling the project done. All materials, drop cloths, and masking are removed and the site is left clean.

Exterior Painting for Ottawa's Climate

Ottawa's temperature range — from −30°C in January to +35°C in July — puts more stress on exterior coatings than almost anywhere in southern Canada. Paint that performs well in mild climates can crack, peel, and chalk within a few years here.

We schedule all exterior work between May and October when temperatures are consistently above 10°C and falling temperatures at night won't prevent proper curing. We monitor the forecast closely and never apply topcoats when rain is expected within 24 hours. These aren't optional precautions — they're what separates a paint job that lasts a decade from one that starts failing in year two.

Frequently Asked Questions — Exterior Painting Ottawa

Do you offer exterior painting in Ottawa?

Yes. We paint the exterior of residential and commercial properties throughout Ottawa and surrounding areas including Kanata, Barrhaven, Nepean, Orleans, Stittsville, Westboro, Gloucester, the Glebe, and Centretown. Contact us for a free on-site estimate.

What surfaces do you paint on the exterior?

We paint all common exterior surfaces: vinyl, wood, and composite siding; soffit and fascia; window and door trim; front doors and garage doors; porches and decks; fences; and concrete or masonry foundations. We assess each surface and recommend the right prep and product before any work begins.

When is the best time to paint the exterior of a house in Ottawa?

Late spring through early fall is ideal — typically May through October — when temperatures are consistently above 10°C and there's no rain in the forecast. Ottawa's winters are too cold for most exterior paints to cure properly. We schedule exterior projects around the weather and always check the forecast before applying any coatings.

How long does exterior painting last in Ottawa?

A professionally applied exterior paint job on a well-prepared surface typically lasts 8 to 12 years in Ottawa's climate. The key factors are surface preparation, primer quality, the number of topcoats, and the product used. We use premium exterior paints from Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore that are formulated for Canadian climate conditions.

How much does exterior painting cost in Ottawa?

Exterior painting costs depend on the size of your home, the number of storeys, the condition and type of the siding, the number of colours, and the scope of work. We provide free, detailed, no-obligation estimates for every project. Most Ottawa homeowners find professional exterior painting a far better investment than replacing siding prematurely.

Do you power wash before painting?

Yes. Thorough cleaning is the foundation of a lasting exterior paint job. We wash all surfaces to remove dirt, mildew, chalking, and loose paint before any prep work begins. Siding that isn't properly cleaned will cause new paint to peel within a couple of seasons regardless of the product used.

Do you repair damaged siding or wood rot before painting?

We identify and address minor surface issues — caulking gaps, filling cracks, spot-priming bare wood — as part of our standard exterior prep. For more significant repairs like rotted boards or damaged sections, we can advise on whether repairs are needed and coordinate accordingly before painting begins.

Ready to Refresh Your Home's Exterior?
